Empowered Women Eliminating Poverty
Friendship Bridge is a registered 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization that empowers impoverished Guatemalan women to create a better future for themselves, their children and their communities. This is done through a Microcredit Plus model that includes microcredit, education, and health services, designed to support women on their path to empowerment. Friendship Bridge's clients are 100 percent women, and many are indigenous and live in rural areas where the rate of poverty and illiteracy in Guatemala is the highest. Founded in 1994, Friendship Bridge serves over 25,000 women each year in Guatemala, with 97 percent of clients feeling their income has increased or stabilized since becoming a client.
